Rod qualified as a solicitor in 1973 and initially worked as an assistant solicitor in East Anglia before moving to Milton Keynes and becoming a partner in one of the oldest and most respected agricultural firms in the country.
In 1989, Rod progressed to a new European venture during which he opened offices in Brussels, London and Manchester as well as having a major office in Milton Keynes. The aim of the office was to service new businesses taking advantage of the avenues opened and the opportunities presented by European Union in 1992. All staff were multi-lingual and his work, at that time, involved many cross border start ups as well as European and Japanese ventures in the UK both for medium and multi-national businesses. At the same time he was involved in many business start ups.
Although work is ever consuming, to relax Rod enjoys the beauty of the Thames on his boat, cookery and gardening. He has written a book on Switzerland and speaks Swiss-German dialect fluently as well as several others intermittently. He is a member of the Swiss Railway Society and a member of the Law Society Art Club. He was formerly involved with Lions International undertaking charitable work and organised the annual Jazz Charity evening on the banks of the Thames for several years.
